Instructions

 

 

Start Up Procedure:

 

  1. Turn on the main power switch in the rack below the mixer;

 

Playback from ProTools:

 

  1. The Mackie Onyx 1640i Mixer is also an Audio Interface for the computer so make sure this is selected as the Playback Engine.

  2. In the I/O Settings load the MIDI Onyx settings file.

  3. Channels 1-16 can on the Mackie Onyx 1640i can be used as outputs from Pro Tools, you need to activate the input by pushing the FW button at the top of the channels strip on each channel.

  4. Route the channels that you use to Main Mix to use L-R stereo playback or to SUB buses (1=BL, 2=BR, 3=C).

  5. The signal to the sub is send via AUX1, open the AUX1 send on each channel used and then adjust the Master Aux1 level.

  6. Set your speaker playback settings by following the instructions on the SPL instructions sheet.

 

Recording in ProTools:

 

  1. You can record to ProTools by using Inputs 1-16 on the mixer or SUB 1-4 (instead of Inputs 5-8) or Aux 1-4 (instead of Inputs 9-14) or the MainMix (instead of Inputs 15-16).

  2. Select one of the above mentioned inputs in Pro Tools and enable it by pushing the FW button if necessary (to record the SUB,Aux and MainMix)

 

Other Software/Own Laptop with Firewire Cable:

 

  1. When using your laptop with the Mackie Onyx 1640i mixer make sure you connect the FireWire cable to your Laptop.

  2. When using other software make sure you select Mackie Onyx 1640i Mixer as the playback interface.

  3. Channels 1-16 can on the Mackie Onyx 1640i can be used as outputs from Pro Tools, you need to activate the input by pushing the FW button at the top of the channels strip on each channel.

Own Laptop with MiniJack Cable:

 

  1. When using your own computer either use the mini jack cable and select “Stereo” & “Input D” in the SPL Volume controller as shown on MIDI Studio SPL 5.1 Instruction sheet.

 

Shut Down Procedure:

 

  1. Put the volume down on the SPL Volume controller and press the mute button.

  2. Quit all programs and shut don’t the computer.

  3. Turn off the main switch on the bottom of the rack under the 01v.

 

General Studio Rules:

 

  1. No drinks or food in the studio.

  2. If you need a password ask the EWP or the studio administrator/teacher or other students.

  3. Keep your files in a folder with your name in the appointed hard drive/folder.

  4. Do not instal any software without consent from the EWP or the studio administrator/teacher.

  5. Do not repatch/remove cables without consent from the EWP or the studio administrator/teacher.

  6. Keep the studio tidy and restore it in the previous condition, if you used a screen, sound card or cables connected to you laptop reconnect it as it was before.

  7. If you encounter any problem or malfunction please report it to the EWP.
