New Lending software

In January we started using new software for lending out our electronic items. It is a ‘library’ cloud-service called Aura library and we slowly get the hang of it. This application makes it easier for us to track the items that are borrowed out and makes the in- and outgoing of items go more smooth. It also supports a mobile app where the users can reserve items and check availability. If we are ready with configuring the mobile app we…

Stream Sets in Use!

Since this week we start with the use of our newly build StreamSets. These sets consist of a big television screen on wheels (Sony KD-43XG7096-4K tv), combined with a good quality camera (Sony FDR-AX43) plus video-microphone, Audient Audio interface, Apple MacMini and a set of Genelec 8020D active audio monitors. This is a powerful combination of high quality Audio and Video and a great setup to create Youtube Streams or Teams meetings with larger groups. More information about the way…

Sonobus

More and more applications can be found to improve the audio quality for music online. Recently our colleagues of the ZHdK pointed out a great new application called “Sonobus”. This free, opensource Mac/Win/iOs application will provide you with a wide range of audio qualities and many powerful features. In some way this application works the same as Jamulus, but in fact the setup is much different – more transparant and more private. First of all this application creates a so…

Jamulus Server Update

The last months the programmers and makers of Jamulus made it again easier to setup your own server. At this point it is nothing more than installing a normal application – start it and the server runs. At this moment they just released version 3.6 (d.d. 28-october-2020). For making the server work properly with the home network settings and the security, you have to make sure the right port are opened within your main router. This is also referred to…

Playing/Singing with Jamulus

First of all a few tips: you need a computer, laptop or desktop. The computer should be connected with a CAT5 cable to the router or modem. A connection with a cable is more stable and can handle more data – so the up- and download speed is faster, which improves the audio quality. You will get the best result when you have an ‘audio-interface’ (=sound-card) connected to your computer. A microphone and speaker (headphone) connected to this audio-interface will…

KvBz streaming ready

This week we started with the setup of the video/audio-streaming set in the KvBz. With the remote controlled camera’s, the mixer, the computers and the ATEM we can host a streaming event directly to Facebook, Youtube or other platform. In the near future we all will benefit from this setup. We can support on-line events and bring the KvBz into your homes. Of-course we know nothing beats being in the theatre, but in these strange times it is a real…

EWP adjustments

Last week our colleagues created ‘one-way routes’ in the building so we can use our building and corridors the most efficient way in this new ‘Corona-era’. Today we also added a plastic screen to our EWP ‘sound-bar’, so we can start our regular lending services if needed. It looks strange, but when it is effective, we will deal with it! We even think of applying small plastic glass pieces in between the workspaces on the EWP workbench, so it may…

More gear available during lockdown

In the last weeks we received more and more e-mails with request how to improve the audio quality with on-line lessons. To be able to support the requests we had to invest and expand the amount of USB-audio interfaces and we had to ‘hunt’ for available keyboards in our building. Because the “whole world” is looking for better soluttions to improve the audio and video quality, it was actually quiet hard to get the items that we wanted. What did…

Jamulus Server Setup (Mac)

In our search for better audio quality recent weeks, we found the application Jamulus as one of the possible solutions to work on-line and combine it with music making. This application connects multiple musicians with each-other by means of a server. All you see in your screen is a volume knob (fader) to adjust the audio mix. The more musicians, the more faders. After some tweaking with volumes and settings and getting used to hear delay (inevitable), you will have…

Video solutions

Here are some tips over video solutions for your recording, streaming or on-line lesson. Webcams Webcams are easy to use. You plug it via USB to your computer and it is ready to go. A webcam can be used for video call, streaming and even recording. Most of the laptops already come with a built-in…
